Matthew Hammack was in the back seat of his friend’s car who was being given a field sobriety test. That when it’s alleged he made a call from the back seat to draw off police.
A call came in to 911 about a robbery in progress at a nearby gas station. Another officer went to investigate but no robbery occurred. 911 dispatchers investigated the GPS of the phone and realized it was nowhere near the gas station at the time of the reporting.
The dispatchers called the phone and that when things unraveled. Hammack and the other occupants of the car were standing outside of the car but his phone inside when it began to ring with a call from 911.
Hammack was arrested and charged with falsely reporting an emergency. The driver passed the field sobriety tests but was cited for speeding.
