The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a $5.5 million improvement project on North Dirksen Parkway from North Peoria Road to Northfield Drive in Springfield.
The improvements include resurfacing, traffic signal upgrades, and ADA improvements.
Work is scheduled to begin in mid-April. Dirksen Parkway between North Peoria Road and Terminal Road will be closed to southbound traffic. Approximately six weeks after the closure, the closure will switch to northbound traffic. A detour will be posted utilizing North Peoria Road and Sangamon Avenue.
Lane closures will be necessary between Terminal Road and Northfield Road, but traffic will remain open in both directions.
Benefits from this project include safety improvements and a smoother driving surface. The project is expected to be completed in early August.
